Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett asked for a trade weeks ago and rumors of where he could go started to swirl. But the Browns have pushed back on his trade request and now the general manager Andrew Berry has weighed in once again.
Berry was asked about whether teams had called Cleveland about Garrett but he pushed back on the rumors, calling them irrelevant. “It’s irrelevant to the situation because we don’t have interest in moving Myles.”
The trade request from the Browns star came out of nowhere but it seems that Harrett believes his time in Cleveland is done. While appearing on “The Rich Eisen Show” a few weeks back, Garrett explained the reasons for his request. “Just felt it was time, you know. I had taken my time after the season, you know, kind of relaxed and decompressed emotionally, wanted to distance myself a little bit and spend a little time talking to my family about, you know, really how we’d feel about this decision.
And I mean, I’d kind of felt this way, I wanted to make sure I was completely detached and they felt the same way I did. And I feel like everyone’s kind of on the same page and felt like it was time to at least speak on something that was near and dear to my heart.
And, you know, I have a lot of love for Cleveland, but you know, it’s always for me been about contending for championships, winning those big games, and winning Lombardis, you know. We haven’t had the opportunity to do that, and that’s that’s all I’m asking for.” At the end of the day, Garrett is one of the better competitors that the NFL has to offer.
But the Browns haven’t seen much success on the field and the former No. 1 overall pick wants to win at the highest level. Garrett has meant a lot to the city of Cleveland but he isn’t getting any younger. The star is 29 years old so he likely knows that he only has a few prime years left in his career.
Last season, Garrett posted 47 total tackles and 14 sacks. It was the seventh straight season that Garrett has reached double-digit sacks but the Browns missed the postseason. It remains to be seen how this will all shake out but the two sides seem to be in disagreement over what they want to happen this offseason.
