Running Back Transferring, Leaving Team Before College Football Playoff Semifinal

The Ohio State Buckeyes will be without their freshman running back Sam Williams-Dixon as he will enter the transfer portal after one season with the program. Williams-Dixon informed Ohio State that he would enter the portal on Sunday after the Buckeyes’ 41-21 win over the Oregon Ducks in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal in the Rose Bowl. SWD also told the staff that he would not remain with the team through the CFP. The No. 8 seed Buckeyes are scheduled to play the No. 5 Texas Longhorns in the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic on January 10.
The 5-foot-11, 203-pound back committed to Ohio State in April 2023 and enrolled there in February 2024. He finished his true freshman season with seven carries for 53 yards.

Williams-Dixon committed to the Buckeyes over 14 other offers. The No. 661 player in 247Sports’ Composite rankings, the Columbus, Ohio native could have quickly moved up the depth chart with running backs TreVeyon Henderson entering the NFL draft and Quinshon Judkins likely to declare for it this offseason. The Buckeyes’ backfield will have James Peoples and CJ Donaldson, an incoming transfer from West Virginia. The program also has three running backs from their 2025 recruiting class: Anthony Rogers, Bo Jackson and Isaiah West.
Williams-Dixon becomes Ohio State’s 12th player to exit via the transfer portal. The Buckeyes rank 22nd in On3Sports’ transfer portal team rankings.
