Scottie Scheffler has just made a last-minute decision that proves he’s not happy ahead of The PGA Championship next month
2025 has been a really strange year for Scottie Scheffler so far.

It’s not that Scheffler has been playing bad – he has made eight out of eight cuts on the PGA Tour, with five top-10 finishes to his name.

Let’s not forget that he suffered a hand injury at the end of last year as well – one that forced him to miss the first few tournaments of the year.

However, it has been obvious to see that the 28-year-old two-time major champion hasn’t been firing on all cylinders.

Scheffler has repeatedly insisted that his game is close to returning to where it was last year, but there’s clearly something not right. His iron play isn’t anywhere near what it was last season, whilst he has been suffering with the left miss off the tee with the driver.

He has repeatedly been in contention this season, but hasn’t quite done enough to win. As Scheffler told reporters at The RBC Heritage – ‘golf is hard’.

Now he has made a big decision ahead of The PGA Championship next month that proves his game is nowhere near where he wants it to be right now.

Scheffler has committed to play in the CJ Cup Byron Nelson next week (Golf Monthly).

And now the 13-time PGA Tour winner has an extremely busy schedule lying ahead of him.

Following the event in his home state, the American will head straight to Philadelphia to play in the Truist Championship, before making his way down to Quail Hollow in North Carolina for The PGA Championship the week after that.

Then in late May, the PGA Tour heads to Fort Worth Texas for the Charles Schwab Challenge – a tournament that he loves to play given its close proximity to his home in Dallas.

The Memorial at ‘Jack’s place’ in Dublin Ohio follows the tournament in Dallas – a signature event, so one that Scheffler will definitely play.

Then comes the Canadian Open before the US Open the following week.

Scheffler faces a seriously busy schedule ahead of him. The CJ Cup Bryon Nelson would surely have been a week that the World No.1 would have skipped usually, had he been content with how his game was shaping up.

The fact that he has committed to play at TPC Craig Ranch proves that he wants to get dialled in during tournament play ahead of the second major of the year next month.

Despite his dominance in the game over the past two years, there are still certain question marks hanging over Scheffler’s head.

The main one being, is he a ‘one track wonder’, having won both of his majors at Augusta National?

It’s an interesting debate, but the bottom line is that there is no doubt Scheffler will win multiple majors outside of The Masters before he hangs up his club.

One thing for sure, if another year goes by without the 28-year-old winning another major aside from The Masters, those questions will intensify.

And Scheffler clearly feels like playing at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson will give him the best opportunity to compete at Quail Hollow next month.
