Deshaun Watson (injured), veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, both selected in the recent NFL Draft.

In this battle, Deshaun Watson can be ruled out as he’s recovering from an Achilles tendon injury. Due to the severity, it’s unlikely he’ll be able to compete-and he may never play for the Browns again. So the real competition is among the remaining four, but in reality, the Browns will have to cut at least one. It’s highly unlikely they’ll keep all four.

 

The final roster may include two quarterbacks, one signed to the practice squad, and one who’ll need to seek opportunities with another team.

 

 

This makes the Browns’ training camp especially interesting-particularly due to the presence of the high-profile Shedeur Sanders.

That’s why it was surprising to see him fall all the way to the fifth round, when the Browns finally gave him a chance.

 

So instead of entering the NFL as a star, Shedeur Sanders arrives as just another player-and will have to prove his worth.

 

 

According to ESPN analyst Daniel Oyefusi, Sanders does not have a guaranteed spot on the Cleveland Browns roster, as he’s expected to start training camp as the team’s fourth quarterback and may be at risk of being cut.

“Being selected behind Gabriel adds an element of uncertainty to Sanders’ rookie season.

 

Although many had ranked him higher than the third-round pick before the draft, Sanders will likely begin training camp as the fourth quarterback on the depth chart and doesn’t have a guaranteed roster spot.

 

Shedeur Sanders has always fought against adversity, and that’s what led him to success at the University of Colorado. Now, he faces a much bigger and more important challenge-the biggest of his life.

 

 

The story will have many more chapters to come, and time will tell if the 31 teams that passed on him will come to regret it.
