The third staging of the World Seniors Matchplay sees 16 players competing for glory at the York Barbican from October 4-5

 

It is the third major televised WSDT event of the year, following on from the World Seniors Championship and the Champion of Champions

 

Leonard Gates is the defending champion after he defeated Jim McEwan 9-6 in last year’s final, and the American returns as the number three seed

 

Reigning World Seniors champion John Henderson is also among the seeded contingent, which is headed by reigning Champion of Champions – Richie Howson

 

Two-time World Seniors champion Robert Thornton, former World Champions Martin Adams and Neil Duff, former Players Champion Kevin Painter and Paul Hogan are also seeded in the draw

 

Three-time World Champion John Part, former World Seniors Master David Cameron and former Women’s World Champions Trina Gulliver and Lisa Ashton also feature, as well as Chris Mason, James Richardson and Matt Clark

 

Sixteen-time World Champion Phil Taylor withdrew from the tournament on medical advice and has been replaced by three-time BDO world finalist Tony O’Shea.

 

First Round and Quarter-Final matches are to be contested over the best of 15 legs, while Semi-Finals and the final are best of 17 legs.Friday October 4
